Shattered
Isabelle lay on the bed, her body aching with pain as tears slowly rolled down her cheeks and dripped onto the somber letter Carson had written. With nowhere to go and nothing to do she sat curled up in her bed in hopes of a phone call from him. (3) She thought of him, how handsome he was and with what devotion he had given her. The two had what every high school couple longed to have. Isabelle had found the love of her life, a man that was willing to do everything for her, love and cherish her, and treat her with the respect she deserved. And now he abandoned her at the time she needed him the most. Lying on the bed, drowning in continuous tears and reliving the past, she thought back to the special moments of their relationship. Through thick and thin, they had stuck together. Now it was as if what they had, never was. The treacherous thought of being alone lurked in the back of Isabelle’s mind.
Their one year anniversary was engraved into her mind. Carson was already making his way over to Isabelle’s the moment he received his license. The doorbell rang; Isabelle had been longing for this moment for the past month! As she rushed to open the door, there stood Carson holding a bouquet of flawless white roses along with a charming little love note. The first thing that came out of his mouth, the only words he could manage to crawl out from behind his teeth were, “you look absolutely breathtaking.” The passion he spoke with, allowing the truth to illuminate through his words, crafted the simplest yet the sweetest sentence a man has ever said to her.
Several questions ran through her head crossed her mind… “Why would he do this to me? What could I have possibly done wrong? I did everything he wanted! Am I not good enough for him? We had everything that everyone else wanted, we were the perfect two!” She became furious at the thought that he had walked out, just because they didn’t get into the same college. Isabelle looked at the promise ring Carson had given her; removing the ring from her delicate finger and hurling it at the wall cursing carelessly. “Just because we can’t go to the same college doesn’t mean that we should be apart.” She tore the letter to shreds and went into her bathroom; as she sat gazing at her reflection in the mirror, she noticed her makeup smeared across her face. Envisioning the girl she once knew, the happy, lively, and beautiful Isabelle. She started beating herself, spewing out a thousand words per second, expressing how much hatred she had towards him, and how he had scarred her soul. Repeatedly hitting the wall until her hand went numb was the only way to take away the pain. She smashed the picture frames that captured her treasured moments with him and cut herself with the jagged pieces of glass from the frame. The feeling of pain and distress was no more, but instead a warm red liquid was flooding from her wrist. Hallucinating, she saw Carson standing across the room, his beautiful smile, his heartwarming eyes gazing into hers, blood covering the floor, and the feeling of emptiness lurking throughout her stomach. He was the only thought on her delirious mind that had created the monster inside. (1) She couldn’t think straight, frantically losing blood her body was filled with pain as she fumbled to grab the gun. (2) Taking a couple of deep breaths, calming herself down and looking into the mirror with a crooked smile, she said ” Let’s see how fine he really is without me.”
She pulled the trigger...

“The thought of his wife and children urged him on.” (197) (1)
“His neck was in pain, and, lifting his hand to it, he found it horribly swollen.” (197) (2)
“He had no wish to perfect his escape, was content to remain in that enchanting spot until retaken.” (197) (3)
